Childrens Health...Antioxidants With Good Nutrition Is Essential To Boost Their Immune System
Childrens health nutritional requirements are different to adults of course.
Proper and adequate nutrition is crucial during childhood..new tissues, bones, muscles and the ever important
immune system
develop at an astonishing pace.
Childrens health, diet and exercise directly influences the amount of energy for them to play, learn and develop.
Now..it is a sad fact that many children have a diet which is very high in processed and refined foods seriously lacking in nutrition. In our every day fast, busy pace of life, parents are too quick to reach for the 'fast foods' and 'ready meals', rather than prepare meals with nutritionally rich organic foods. This can affect childrens health.
I am sure we don't purposely do this but sometimes it is just to convenient to 'throw' a quick meal together, you know..chips, nuggets, burgers etc..you get the picture? Perhaps a little forward planning with meals could help.
Just recently, heavy publicity has highlighted the concerns with childrens health and diets at schools.
Unfortunately many kids are missing valuable nutrition and are consuming way too much sugar, salt, bad fats and additives...and to make the problem worse...they are becoming less and less active.
In the UK it is estimated that one quarter of the population are now overweight by the time they reach 16 years of age...that's a worrying fact....leading to an increased risk of health problems such as diabetes at a much younger age.
This page is as much of a gentle nutritional reminder to parents as well as an
antioxidant guide
(the theme of this site) for them too. Check out the
orac list
to help you understand
foods that are high in antioxidants.
Not too surprisingly a recent study found that one in five children never eat fruit and a staggering 59% do not like vegetables!
These
valuable food sources
provide lots of
antioxidants,
which are absolutely essential to protect cells from
free radical
damage. However, nutrients can be easily lost through modern day farming methods, storage and over cooking. This is where a
good supplement
is recommended for your kids.
The key to a healthy child is a
strong immune system.
This will provide a child with powerful natural defenses against disease. When functioning properly, the immune system fights disease-producing organisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites.
WE seem to live in a antibiotic world don't we? Children (and adults) seem to be forever subjected to contiuing cycles of antibiotics and other medications.
Hopefully a lot of these medications can be avoided by enhancing your childs immune system, through good nutrition and antioxidants.
Children, Asthma and Antioxidants
If you have experienced a child with asthma(I have), then you know how scary an asthmatic episode can be...sometimes even life threatening.
Finding the correct foods along with the right antioxidants, plus a little effort from the parents...could help kids with asthma.
In a large recent study on young Americans it was found that higher levels of beta-carotene and
vitamin C,
along with the trace mineral selenium, were associated with a lower risk of asthma.
A word of caution...excessive selenium supplements can be toxic. Better to take dietry selenium such as cereal grains, fish, meat, and poultry.
Airway inflammation is a common characteristic of asthma, so...if the
inflammation
can be reduced (or maybe even eradicated), then that is fantastic news for sufferers.
Ok parents, take home lesson here...our childrens health is very precious to us, let's give them a good nutritional base or foundation and a 'fighting chance'. After all we only get one chance at life..don't we?
