Cherry Medicine..How To Make Your Own Natural Cough Syrup
Cherry medicine...or how to make your own natural cough syrup using the power of cherries.
Plants have long been used to treat all knids of diseases and form the basis of many modern medicines.
Here is a quick and easy to make recipie for a very common ailment...the cough!
CHERRY COUGH SYRUPActually the 'magic' ingredient here is honey, however the addition of cherries and lemon add a
vitamin C
punch and of course, a good dose of
antioxidants,
enabling you to fight those nasty
free radicals.
You need 500g of cherries..remember to leave the pips in. One whole lemon, sliced. 250ml of honey. Preferably Manuka Honey, but this can be a bit expensive, so use according to your budget.
Put all the ingredients into a pan with enough water to cover and simmer for 30 minutes...or until the cherries are soft. Then remove from the heat and strain out all the solids, so you're just left with the juice. Let the juice cool.
USE Take 2 tablespoons to sooth coughing. STORAGE It will keep for several days if kept in the fridge. Credit for this recipie goes to James Wong, a botanist who has written a wonderful book called Grow Your Own Drugs, published by HarperCollins at £16.95
